Fixed SCSS Build Errors

Fixed SCSS Build Errors

Problem

The _sass/_custom.scss file had syntax errors causing Jekyll to fail building:

  • Error: “Invalid CSS after expected selector or at-rule, was ‘}’ on line 351”
  • Cause: Duplicate and orphaned code blocks from merging the new compact styles with old legacy styles

Solution

  1. Cleaned up the custom.scss file by:
    • Removing duplicate style definitions
    • Fixing orphaned closing braces
    • Removing malformed CSS selectors
    • Keeping only the new compact pastel green theme styles
    • Preserving essential legacy styles for other pages
  2. Removed temporary files:
    • _sass/_custom_new.scss
    • _sass/_custom.scss.broken

Current Status

Jekyll is building successfully

The website now has:

  • Clean, compact pastel green theme
  • No duplicate styles
  • Valid SCSS that compiles properly
  • All essential components working:
    • Research interests cards
    • Featured publications
    • Experience timeline
    • Updates section
    • Legacy button styles for other pages

You can now view your site at http://localhost:4000 with the modernized design.

The compact pastel green theme is applied to:
